THE CATALYST

Having been raised by a veterinarian father, my affinity for canine companionship developed at an early age. During this time, I recognized the significance that training can have in nurturing the human-dog relationship. We trained field trial Beagles, and I found joy in witnessing these dogs perform tasks for which they were intended. These experiences led to an appreciation for the innate capabilities of dogs, as well as an admiration for their loyalty. Inspired by my father's vocation, I, too, became a veterinarian.

GOOD FORTUNE

My journey in dog training was transformed when I met Bruno, an exuberant 12-week-old Labrador mix with a tendency to bite in excess of what is considered normal puppy behavior. Bruno was a unique challenge. I had an established veterinarian-client relationship with Andrew Nelson. Recognizing his expertise as a trainer, I sought his guidance. Under his mentorship, my approach to dog training evolved. Andrew taught me to embrace the dog in front of me for who he is and help him to be the best he could be. I learned to “think outside the box” which pushed my training with my canine companions into a new dimension.

I enjoy numerous dog sports. I have trained and titled in obedience, agility, Rally and K9Nosework. I also enjoy Therapy dog work with my Beagle, Lilly. In addition to these endeavors, I actively participate in animal rescue through Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia, and I foster frequently, which typically fails since I end up adopting them for life.
